Stuff I did in the Aion Beta June 22, 2009

So I tried out the Aion beta recently. I played as an Elyos (a light-sided dude) Gladiator. I had a lot of fun, even though the level cap was just 10, and I might’ve wasted a few quests not realizing that . Anyway, onto the juicy pics and stuff.

When you first log into Aion, you’re greeted with an immensely beautiful login screen….

After logging in, you choose a side (if you don’t have a character already). The two available sides are the Elyos, the “light side” and the Asmodians, the “dark side”. Each frame for them have their own little descriptions. Interestingly enough, if you click on one of them, the other group’s descriptions turn into what your currently selected group thinks of them. Like so :

Afterwards, you get to finall select your characters! In which case, I chose an Elyos warrior.

Then you get to customize your character. Now, normally, in most MMORPG’s there aren’t a lot of customization options. Maybe a few hair styles here, a few face style here, etc. But in Aion, its completely different. The level of customizeability is unprecedented in any MMORPG I’ve played so far (and I’ve played a LOT). Its….comparable to those of Fallout 3/Obvlivion, even. Now thats saying something. Everything is controlled by sliders, so you’ll never see two of the same characters.

Then after you’re done, you can see your character in the character select screen.

After selecting your character, you’re welcomed by a beautifully rendered forest. And your first quest, as shown on the right.

The game has some great idle animations based on your surroundings and weather.

After doing some basic starter quests that familiarized me with the game’s basics (such as combat, hot keys and whatnot) I arrived at the first actual village. And then something I’m very familiar with in MMORPG’s came to me : Loads of quests to do. I love it! So after taking up all the quests and selling junk I found from monsters along the way, I decided to go out to the lake to do a quest, which required me to kill some weird Kobold things. But then I get deviated looking at the lake, because its so beautiful. Until I started killing pink swans, haha.

Possibly the best looking MMORPG out to date.

Apparently your character used to be a general of sorts before he/she lost their memory...AWESOME.

After "ascending" where you regain your memories and become a Daeva, you go to the main Elyos city named Sanctum. It's beautiful.

Oh - and you also get wings!
